About the Position:
This position is covered by the Science and Technology Laboratory Personnel Management Demonstration Project. Engineering Technician assigned to the Field Data Collection and Analysis Branch (HNF), Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory (CHL). Technician assists with conducting research and development in a wide variety of inland and coastal projects.
Duties
As a senior Engineer Technician, you will use your expertise and judgment to independently carry out work assignments, and you will routinely direct the work of other employees to accomplish project work.
Team with engineers and scientists to analyze evolutionary research and testing requirements and objectives to plan, implement, and configure oceanic experiments.
Present recommendations with drawings, cost estimates, material specifications, sources of supply, vendor quotations, and other exhibits.
Conduct liaison with scientists and engineers performing related experimental work in other agencies, universities and industrial laboratories.
Assess the capability and reliability of oceanic equipment in relation to new commercial developments.
Operate a vessel, and/or act as a crew member on a vessel.
Requirements

This position is covered by the Science and Technology Laboratory Personnel Management Demonstration Project at the DE-04 (GS-11 thru 12). In accordance with the Federal Register Vol. 63, No. 57, dated March 25, 1998, Laboratory Demonstration Project employees must have a current average performance score of at least 2.5 or equivalent (fully successful rating) for promotion consideration.
Experience Required:
To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience equivalent to the DE-03 (GS-10) grade level in the Federal service which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: experience applying a wide range of technical engineering methods and techniques using hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanics, electricity, and heat; experience servicing oceanic instrumentation or equipment which is continually being modified and adapted and does not usually have adequate documentation; and experience testing diving activities for safe execution during changing weather conditions.
