Duties

As a Visual Information Specialist you will: Provide design advice and consultation services in planning and developing the presentation of complex public health and scientific information to a variety of audiences ranging from public health specialists and scientists to managers and the general public. Meet with clients to develop a mutual understanding of the communication objectives to be achieved, the nature and intended impact of the information to be presented, points to be emphasized, and the intended audience. Use a variety of industry-standard software applications and visual communication science and design principles and practices to translate complex public health and scientific information into commercial quality communication products. Make decisions on aspects of the subject matter to be emphasized and translates subject matter ideas and information into visual representations using graphics software packages and computer equipment and peripherals.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Minimum Qualifications: Specialized Experience: To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level, which must include the following experience: developing and producing graphic and textual materials in both print and digital format using industry-standard software and peripheral devices; producing commercial-quality visual information conveying information to a variety of audiences; and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and applying customer service strategies. OR Education: Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree, in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of graduate level education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
