Duties
As a Visual Information Specialist you will:
Lead, plan and develop original visual treatments for web, social media, printed publications, exhibits, or the visual content of oral presentations and other communication media.
Meet with clients to develop a mutual understanding of the communication objectives to be achieved, the nature and intended impact of the information to be presented, points to be emphasized, and the intended audience.
Advise on the technical advantages and disadvantages of various formats, styles, media, and methods of reproduction, suggesting those that will best meet the information objectives of each project.
Apply advanced knowledge of visual communication, illustration, human-centered design, and user interface and user experience design methods, techniques, and materials in translating novel, abstract and/or multi-theme subject matter into visual designs.
Design and produce, by computer, diagrams, graphs, slides, charts, displays, flyers, posters, signs, logos, and publications.
Collaborate with subject matter experts and designers to plan the design and fabrication of unique exhibits and scientific poster presentations.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level, which must include the following experience: leading and advising on large-scale, complex visual communication projects and project leads. Experience using industry-standard software to produce visual communication for several digital and traditional mediums (i.e., web, social media, mobile design, and print).

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements.
