Duties
As a Lead Visual Information Specialist you will:
Provide design advice and consultation services to clients throughout the agency in planning and developing the presentation of complex public health and scientific information to a variety of audiences ranging from public health specialists and scientists to managers and the public
Meet with clients to develop a mutual understanding of the communication objectives to be achieved, the nature and intended impact of the information to be presented, points to be emphasized, and the Intended audience
Research the subject matter to be presented by reviewing scientific literature (e.g., medical journals, scientific journals, unpublished manuscripts, etc.) and by discussing the subject matter with experts within and outside of the agency
Use a variety of industry-standard software applications and visual communication science and design principles and practices to translate complex public health and scientific information into commercial-quality communication products
Make decisions on aspects of the subject matter to be emphasized and translate subject matter ideas and information into visual representations using graphics software packages and computer equipment and peripherals such as high-end scanners and digital SLR cameras. (Products include infographics, interactive web graphics, exhibit displays, custom illustrations and graphic elements, high end presentation materials and magazine-style publication designs.)
Develop representations and illustrations of medical, biological, geological, architectural, technological, or other kinds of specimens to illustrate and communicate information to the audience
Serve as a Team Leader ensuring that the organization's strategic plan, mission, vision, and values are communicated to the team and integrated into the team's strategies, goals, objectives, work plans and work products and services

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level, which must include the following experience: using visual communication, marketing strategies and design principles to develop communications and campaigns for intended audiences; and using industry-standard software and computer equipment to produce visual communication (i.e., web, social media, mobile design, and print).
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.
