The Office of Innovation and Information Technology (OIIT) leads the management and development of information technology at the NIH by providing secure, well-managed operations and solutions for the 30 Divisions and 2500+ users. In this role, you will provide technical and administrative support for the local area network and data communication systems and networks.
Duties
Serve as a technical expert in reviewing and implementing the ongoing network operations of NIH target architecture.
Plan, design, develop, manage, and enhance network systems.
Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot network systems including computer hardware, communications systems and application software in support of a demand driven 24 x 7 work environments.
Develop contingency and recovery plans.
Configure and optimize network servers, hubs, routers, and switches.
Provide expertise in Local Area Network and Wide Area Network hardware, network design and protocols such as IP, IPX, AppleTalk, IGRP, EIGRP, RIP, BGP and/or OSPF.
Participate in projects involving the application of digital communications techniques and common local area network technology (base band and broadband media, switches, bridges and routers, media access protocols, and interfacing techniques).
Plan testing/evaluation and installation of equipment to include commercially available hardware and software.

Qualifications
In order to qualify for an Information Technology Specialist (Network), GS-2210 position you must have:
IT related experience, demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience, obtained in either the private or public sector, and/or completion of specific, intensive training that demonstrates all of the following four competencies:1. Attention to Detail - is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail; and2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services; and3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately; and4. Problem Solving - identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
AND:
In order to qualify for an Information Technology Specialist (Network), GS-2210 position at the GS-13 level, you must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector typically gained in the IT field or through performing IT related tasks such as: designing and integrating network systems with network infrastructure; troubleshooting problems with network and communications facilities and services; installing network hardware and software fixes and upgrades; defining security requirements for an IT network; instructing other IT Specialists in performing such work with networks.
