This position is a Health Technician (PT) located at the Whiteriver Indian Health Service Rehabilitation Services Therapy (Physical/Occupational/Speech Therapy) Department. The Rehabilitation Services therapy program treats patients with neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, integumentary, and cardiovascular and pulmonary impairments and/or disabilities. The incumbent will perform patient scheduling for therapists, administrative filing and assist with clinic supply ordering and stocking.

Duties

Patient scheduling and check-in. Transport, ambulate, move, and lift patients. Measure, report and record vital signs and report patients' condition to the therapists. Assist with the collection of lab specimens, processed appropriately and delivered to the lab. Clean equipment and clinic exam/ treatment rooms. Prepare and assist with clinical examinations including sharp debridement, electrical stimulation, heat and cold pack application, perfusion studies and spirometry.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-5: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples Include: non-professional work of a technical or support nature in the field of health and medicine, such as taking vital signs; determining what the provider needs to treat the patient; providing instructions to patients; assisting the RN/provider in medical treatments; transporting a wide variety of specimens to the lab. OR Four (4) years of education above the High School level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. OR Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. GS-6: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples Include: non-professional work of a technical or support nature in the field of health and medicine, such as taking vital signs; determining what the provider needs to treat the patient, monitoring patient's conditions by interviewing patients; Assisting with the following: Appointment coordination, administrative support, assisting with activities of daily living, including perineal care; breastfeeding support, newborn care, and car seat training. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
