This position is located at the Whiteriver Service Unit, Whiteriver, Arizona, and can be assigned to any location throughout the service unit, i.e., Cibecue Clinic, Nursing Services, Outpatient Department, and patient care teams associated with the Medical Home. The incumbent is a member of a patient care team in an active primary care practice that will perform basic patient care services and technical tasks under the direction of the Medical Doctor (MD)/Licensed Health Care Professional.

Duties

Conducts intake procedures; obtains general medical information, including allergies and drug sensitivities; and takes and records vital signs (TPR-temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, height, weight). Provides pretreatment, treatment and post treatment evaluation of patients to ensure adequate preparation for treatment to include patient screening, evaluation of vital signs and blood glucose monitoring. Draws blood, collects and prepares specimens such as routine urine, stool, sputum, and cultures for laboratory analysis; provides ostomy, stoma care, and education to patients and staff; provides consultation care and treatment of advanced wounds, fissures, diabetic foot ulcers, and non-healing wounds. Performs procedures within the scope of practice to include sterile dressing application and packing, enemas, suture/staple application and removal; applies orthopedic splints as prescribed by physician; assists physician in performing diagnostic, therapeutic, and minor surgical procedures ranging from routine to specialized to include biopsy, endoscopy, bronchoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, manometry and electrocardiogram. Ensures the sterile condition and adequacy of supplies in patient care areas and storage rooms. Monitors emergency carts for operational readiness and ensure sufficient stock levels. Ensures treatment areas are and sufficiently stocked in accordance with established parameters and medical supplies are not outdated. Ensures medical equipment is in proper working order and verifies the biomedical equipment safety inspections are up to date.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-06 Grade Level: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-05) in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples Include: Venipuncture, collecting lab specimens, performing basic wound/skin care measures, and administering oral medication, performs subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, typical of experienced medical assistant or health education positions. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GS-07 Grade Level: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-06) in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:Examples Include: Providing complex health care to high risk patients, using specialized equipment such as cardiac monitors, EKG, & IV fluid pumps, interpreting examination requests accurately and be able to recognize a need for additional tests and have the ability to interpret and implement an established patient care plan. -OR- Completed at least 1 year (18 semester hours) of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position. (Transcripts required) -OR- Possess a combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-07 grade level. (Transcripts required) SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR - TRAINING This position requires Medical Assistant education. To meet this requirement you must have on of the following: Completed an approved medical assistant training program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), or by any accrediting agency recognized by the United State Department of Education, OR, Completed a medical services training program of the Armed Forces of the United States that provided clinical proficiency with the necessary scope of knowledge to perform the duties as described in this vacancy announcement. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR - CERTIFICATION This position requires a Medical Assistant certification. To meet this requirement you must have on of the following: Possess a current and active Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), OR, Possess a current and active Registered Medical Assistant certification (RMA) from the American Medical Technologists (AMT), OR, Possess a current and active National Certified Medical Assistant certification (NCMA) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). Completed a medical services training program of the Armed Forces of the United States that provided clinical proficiency with the necessary scope of knowledge to perform the duties as described in this vacancy announcement. The only exception to the requirement for active and current certification is for Armed Forces of the United States trained medical assistants who have completed medical service training that provides clinical proficiency in these necessary scope of knowledge and clinical skills. Preferably, the medical assistant must also demonstrate that they have maintained clinical proficiency through recent or ongoing work in a clinical setting. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
