The Commercial Litigation Branch, Office of Foreign Litigation is seeking a highly motivated Legal Assistant who will be assigned to work on specific cases or on specific legal matters together with attorneys and paralegal specialists as part of the judicial assistance process.
Duties
As a GS- 0986-7/8, your typical work assignments may include the following:
Managing aspects of the international judicial assistance process.
Conducts legal and factual research to assist attorneys.
Drafting affidavits, pleadings, and cover letters.
Assisting in cite checking briefs.
Assisting with the execution of evidence requests.
Preparing exhibits.
Assisting in closing cases and ensuring that program files are complete and reflect the appropriate disposition of the cases.

Requirements
- You must be a United States Citizen or National.
- You will be required to complete a pre-employment security investigation and background check which includes a drug screening.
- You may be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
- Selective service registration is required for males born on, or after, December 31, 1959. Those not registered should have an approved exemption on file.

Qualifications
To qualify for the position of Legal Assistant at GS-0986-7/8 , you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade you're applying to.
If you are a current or former government employee on a permanent appointment in the competitive service, you will need to demonstrate 1-year (52-weeks) at the next lower grade level as listed in the qualifications below. Time-in-Grade applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. Additionally, please ensure to submit an applicable SF-50 (please refer to the "required documents" section for additional information).
To qualify for the GS-07 position, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in the Federal service. This specialized experience may include: collecting, organizing and transmitting requests; drafting routine documents; utilizing software such as Excel, Word, Adobe, etc. to manage, track and organize information; assists in supporting attorneys by retrieving cases and other documents from court records or law libraries; ensuring case files are complete and contain all required documentation.
To qualify for the GS-08 position, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service. This specialized experience may include: coordinating and maintaining case files; searching legal reference files and electronic databases for a variety of information; communicating with witnesses; applying legal terminology and written guidelines to work products; drafting affidavits, pleadings and cover letters.
