The primary purpose of this position is supervising a shift of aircraft maintenance mechanics and specialists engaged in Transient Alert aircraft maintenance, Home Station Check (HSC) & Isochronal Aircraft Inspections with responsibility for aircraft refurbishment and back line operations for assigned aircraft.
Duties
- Performs duties of shift supervisor. Maintains current status of aircraft. Coordinates with and briefs the Aircraft· inspections Flight Chief on all maintenance activities. Performs quality verification inspections' on assigned aircraft and support equipment,
- Attends and participates in various meetings in order to provide inputs and implement maintenance plans. Participates in scheduled maintenance planning and daily preplanning meetings as required.
- Supervises a moderate work force of approximately 50 aircraft mechanics/specialist ranging from WG-02 to WS- 09, Provides guidance1 policy and coordination for the most effective cross utilization of assigned personnel to accomplish mission requirements.
- Monitors and ensures cooperation between mechanics ln accordance with the decentralized maintenance concept outlined in the functional statement. Ensures maintenance requirements are properly identified and documented.
- Documents work assignments through the use of AFTO 781 series and 00-81 computer terminals. Ensures tools era properly marked, calibrated (if necessary); and are secured when area ls unattended, Reports any lost tools In accordance with applicable procedures, Ensures the tool inventory log is properly signed in accordance with established procedures.
- Maintains an organized work area and practices good housekeeping. Accomplishes daily cleanup or work area at designated times. Assists in the training of newly assigned personnel to the required skill level,
Requirements
- This is a supervisory position.
- Ability to clean work area and or job site upon completion of work. Ability to plan and schedule work to achieve maximum utilization of personnel, facilities, and equipment.

- Aircraft duties are paramount, aircraft engine mechanic/pneudraulics skill and knowledge will not be reflected during the recruiting process.
- Area of responsibility includes Transient Alert aircraft maintenance duties.
- May be required to perform duties as a flight-line supervisor.
- This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
- Must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WS-8800-Aircraft Overhaul Family, General Aircraft Overhaul. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of a AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
I. Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair of transport or other comparable large body cargo hauling aircraft. Knowledge of tool, equipment and materials accounting.
2. Requires a knowledge of various phases of aircraft maintenance such as periodic inspections, home station checks, corrosion control, structural repair, electrical systems, pneudraulics; etc. in order to perform inspections and evaluate suggestions and technical order changes, Also, requires a basic knowledge in the various trades and craft specialties to evaluate/inspect workmanship.
3. Knowledge of the makeup, operation and installation of a variety of assemblies of aircraft. Knowledge of safety and security requirements as outlined In applicable safety standards, regulation and technical orders. Ability to plan and schedule work to achieve maximum utilization of personnel; facilities and equipment.
4. Skill in use and maintenance of measuring instruments and various mechanics hand tools. Knowledge of how a variety of aircraft parts, accessories and components are removed and assembled. Ability to clean work area and or job site upon completion of work.
5. Ability to read and interpret instructions, specifications, blueprints;, and technical, orders. Ability to detect and Isolate malfunctions and to determine when new assemblies, components and. parts of aircraft should be installed, reworked, repaired or adjusted.
6. Individual must be computer literate and have the ability to document work assignments through the use· of AFTO 781 series and automated maintenance management systems. Ability to determine when new assemblies should be installed, repaired, reworked, and the extent of adjustment required.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Considerable standing, walking and climbing in and out of aircraft and maintenance stands.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works inside and outside. Outside work may be performed in adverse weather. Some work is performed on the flight line and is subject to loud noise from jet engines.
·PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
