This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located at Bayne Jones Army Community Hospital, Fort Johnson, Louisiana.

Duties

Provide exterior renovations to include painting handrails, refastening trim, and repairing deteriorated concrete. Determine requirements for repairing 110 volt switches and duplex outlets. Operate both manual and electric mechanical tools/machinery. Troubleshoots, repairs, replaces, fabricates, locks, and duplicates keys for stationary property e.g. desks, key boxes, padlocks, display cases, filing cabinets, and safes. Perform maintenance of equipment and related systems heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, plumbing and electrical systems.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Required to possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
• A pre-placement medical examination is required.
• Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds is required.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker ~ Ability to perform common tasks that involve the upkeep of a healthcare environment such as painting and applying drywall to structures, repairing fixtures or utilities in order to be compliant, operate both manual and electric mechanical tools/machinery; AND repair heating ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, plumbing and electrical systems within a healthcare environment without more than normal supervision. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Make repairs and installations which often require working from ladders, platforms, or scaffolding, and where parts of systems worked on are in hard-to-reach places. This requires standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts items weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasionally may lift items weighing more. Working Conditions: Work is performed indoors and outdoors and is usually subject to dirt, dust, and grease. May be exposed to inclement weather when working outdoors, under buildings, etc. There is frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts and bruises, and occasional exposure to the possibility of broken bones, electrical shock, and burns. May work in noisy areas. May be exposed to mud and water and subjected to infection from unsanitary work sites.
