This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This position is located at Bayne Jones Army Community Hospital, Fort Johnson, Louisiana.
Duties
Install new electrical lines, controls, and/or equipments.
Determine requirements for wiring, transformers, and other electrical devices for installation.
Troubleshoot electrical issues to identify resolutions.
Repair circuit boards, motor controls, control boards, or other parts to restore function to systems.
Perform maintenance of equipment and related systems, to include refrigerators, freezers, water coolers, medical air compressors, and a variety of other medical facility equipment.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Up to 5% Business Travel required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds is required.
- Required to possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
- Position is designated as Mission Essential. The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations.
- Incumbent will be subject to emergency call back duty and an irregular tour of duty.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) MAINTENANCE MECHANIC ~ ability to perform common installation and/or repair of buildings, grounds, fixtures, utilities, OR related structures without more than normal supervision. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Effort: Make repairs and installations which often require working from ladders, platforms, or scaffolding, and where parts of systems worked on are in hard-to-reach places. This requires standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts items weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasionally may lift items weighing more.
Working Conditions: Work is performed indoors and outdoors and is usually subject to dirt, dust, and grease. May be exposed to inclement weather when working outdoors, under buildings, etc. There is frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts and bruises, and occasional exposure to the possibility of broken bones, electrical shock, and burns.May work in noisy areas. May be exposed to mud and water and subjected to infection from unsanitary work sites.
