Under the direction of the Chief of Pharmacy, Central Virginia health Care System (CVHCS) and in concert with other supervisory personnel within the Pharmacy Section, the incumbent is responsible for the daily operation of the pharmacy's automated data processing and management information systems. These responsibilities will be performed in consonance with the section's mission and goal statements, philosophies, policies, procedures, goals and objectives to ensure that services are provided.
Duties
Duties to include but not limited to:
The specialist will be responsible for staff training and implementation of all new and upgraded VISTA, CPRS, and GUI applications utilized by all sections of Pharmacy
Reviews data collected manually and devises methodologies of converting manual data collection systems to automated systems
Devises efficient templates to extract information from VISTA for Pharmacy, and other CVHCS staff as required
Responsible for keeping the Chief and Pharmacy supervisors informed of all administrative or technical issues that may impact Pharmacy programs
Acts as a liaison between Pharmacy section and informatics staff. All operational problems experienced by Pharmacy staff are referred t the specialist who will interact with IRM and/or Informatics staff to affect the required fixes in a timely manner
Responsible for coordination. development, and implementation of all pertinent information applications to support clinical practice, administration, educational development, research initiatives and the computerized medical record in Pharmacy section.
Orients all new staff to use of VISTA/CPRS, mailman, ADP security, NT network, Outlook, etc
Cross-trains an alternate ADPAC/Informatics Specialist to ensure that the ADPAC function is provided during periods of absence
Submits an annual report to the Chief of Pharmacy detailing hardware and software needs for the future
Attends meetings as the Pharmacy Sections ADPAC/Informatics Specialist as assigned
Trains procurement staff in proper use of the Drug Accountability software
Trains supervisory staff in use of Drug Accountability software in maintaining internal control of their areas

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education: Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. (NOTE: Prior to 2005 ACPE accredited both baccalaureate and Doctor of Pharmacy terminal degree programs; today the sole degree is Doctor of Pharmacy) Graduates of foreign pharmacy degree programs meet the educational requirement if the graduate is able to provide proof of achieving the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Commission (FPGEC) Certification, which includes passing the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE) and the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test (TOEF iBT).
Licensure: Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.
English Language Proficiency: Pharmacists must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
Grade Determinations: In addition to the GS-12 requirements, must have 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. The experience must have demonstrated the use of knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with professional pharmacy practice.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing to persuade and influence clinical and management decisions.
Expert understanding of regulatory and quality standards for their program area.
Ability to solve problems, coordinate and organize responsibilities to maximize outcomes in their program area or area of clinical expertise.
Expert knowledge of a specialized area of clinical pharmacy practice or specialty area of pharmacy.
Advanced skill in monitoring and assessing the outcome of drug therapies, including physical assessment and interpretation of laboratory and other diagnostic parameters.
Preferred Experience: Informatics training, ADPAC experience, drug file management
