This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: The incumbent serves as a Shift Supervisor for the Law Enforcement force assigned under the authority of the Senior Commander at IMCOM supported installations.
Duties
You will respond to and investigate emergency calls, complaints and other calls for service; exercises search and apprehension authority, detains witnesses, apprehends suspects, etc.
You will conduct traffic law enforcement patrol using specialized equipment such as radar, Lidar and breathalyzer.
You will perform protection duties to deter, detect, and deny unauthorized access at fixed installation, internal compound, and incident perimeter posts.
You will operate the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminal in accordance with federal and state laws to transcribe data.
You will plan and assign work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one-year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
- May be required to complete occasional business travel.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) you must report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program. Must sign DA Form 5019 acknowledging both pre-appointment and periodic random drug testing requirements.
- Successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exemption or grandfathered from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
- Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
- Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56: pass a pre-employment and recurring medical evaluation, Pass a Physical Agility Test within 30 days of hire date and annually, maintain requirements of the Individual Reliability Program
- The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
- Incumbent must possess a valid state driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator’s license.
- Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
- Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes mentoring, evaluating, and training subordinate police officers to make recommendations for improvement; reviewing preliminary investigations and police reports to ensure offenses and incidents are accurately documented; implementing physical security measures to guarantee public safety; and conducting law enforcement duties in the protection of life, property and civil rights. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
NOTE: Federal law requires removal of federal law enforcement officers convicted of felonies. The Omnibus Federal Budget Bill for Fiscal Year 2001 (Public Law 106-554) includes a provision that imposes requirements on federal agencies, including DoD installations, that employ law enforcement officers. The provision, which is in Section 639 of PL 106-554, requires agencies to remove law enforcement officers from employment as law enforcement officers if they are convicted of a felony after the law takes effect. Felony convictions that occurred before the new law takes effect are not included in this requirement; only new convictions will trigger the requirement. The law went into effect on January 20, 2001.
