Duties
You will advise supervisors of program deficiencies and appropriate measures needed to achieve the mission’s goals for the Mission Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) program.
You will and serves as safety and health advisor to competency program managers in resolving diverse safety and occupational health problems or program elements.
You will conduct random visits to workplaces to determine whether or not the local program is as effective as the Navy Safety and Occupational Health compliance program in the identification and resolution of hazards.
You will plan, schedule, and conduct inspections of mission workplaces as they pertain to work processes and review of those processes to ensure compliance with all applicable and relevant safety and occupational health regulations and procedures.
You will develop safety training curriculum and conduct a safety education program to fulfill all mandated SOH training requirements to promote awareness of hazards and preventative measures.
You will prepare a chronological narrative of events contributing to the incident, summarizes findings, develops conclusions, and makes recommendations for elimination or control of hazards identified.
You will initiates safety vulnerability studies, so the Command and its programs derive maximum value from available resources in a safe and efficient manner.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Identifying occupational hazards in a wide variety of industrial, manufacturing and aviation RDT&E sites; 2) Interpreting engineering drawings to determine if proposed safety control measures are in compliance with applicable safety standards; 3) Assessing and recommending new programs, modify existing programs, revise instructions, Industrial Hygiene Surveys, standard operating practices (SOP's), and standard work packages (SWP's) to update or develop new safety concepts for the activity and analyze loss prevention programs; 4) Informing and training supervisors and employees in the correct safety procedures to follow and instill motivation in employees to follow safe working conditions to alleviate mishaps.

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

Successful completion of 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
