You will serve as a SAFETY & OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST (MISSION SAFETY) in the DIGITAL ANALYTICS INFRASTRUCTURE & TECHNOLOGY ADVANCEMENT GROUP, INFRASTRUCTURE, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEPARTMENT, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL DIVISION of NAVAIRWARCENAC DIV.

Duties

You will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and evaluation of a comprehensive mission safety program and advise supervisors of program deficiencies and appropriate measures needed to achieve the mission’s goals for the program. You will conduct visits to NAWCAD workplaces to determine whether or not the local program is as effective as the Navy Safety and Occupational Health compliance program in the identification and resolution of hazards. You will develop a safety training curriculum and conduct a safety education program to fulfill all mandated SOH training requirements through formal sessions, and supervisor and employee discussions. You will provide input on safety requirements for mishaps; inspections; medical surveillance; hazardous material control; hearing, sight, fall and respiratory protection; bloodborne pathogens; occupational hazards; and indoor air quality. You will initiate safety vulnerability studies for the Command and its programs. You will be an advisor on matters pertaining to SOH and system safety engineering by monitoring the execution of safety and system safety engineering programs for Navy aircraft related test projects and mission assets acquisition or projects.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Identifying occupational hazards in a wide variety of industrial, manufacturing and aviation RDT&E sites; 2) Recommending abatement and control measures for operations with unsafe or unhealthful working conditions, operations, processes, a high potential for mishaps, or requiring difficult or costly corrective measures; 3) Interpreting engineering drawings to determine if proposed safety control measures are in compliance with applicable safety standards; 4) Developing inspection procedures to determine if work processes and equipment operations of an area are consistent with applicable safety criteria and recommending proper hazard control or abatement techniques; 5) Assessing and recommending new programs, modifying existing programs, revising instructions, utilizing Industrial Hygiene Surveys, standard operating practices (SOP's), and standard work packages (SWP's) to update or develop new safety concepts for the activity and analyze loss prevention programs; 6) Informing and training supervisors and employees in the correct safety procedures to follow and instill motivation in employees to follow safe working conditions to alleviate mishaps; 7) Preparing and verbalizing clear and concise reports. In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

Successful completion of 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
