This position is located within Health Information Management Section of the Health Administration Service at the VA Illiana Health Care System. The purpose of this position is to perform work related to the acquisition of program information to support technical activities of medical record scanning, file room, and release of information.
Duties
Performs work related to the acquisition and/or development of program information and resource materials/personnel to support the policy development and/or technical activities of the organization.
Researches selected topics and/or concepts.
Assembles and summarizes data, background information, and other materials into report or presentation formulas.
Performs duties related to the transfer and receipt of individual health information from private sector facilities.
Obtains records from National Record Center in support of Release of Information.
Coordinates file room activities to assure timely completion and compliance with procedural and retention guidelines.
Assists with training new employees.
Assists with record management.
Utilizes the computer and the information contained within VISTA/CPRS.
All other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/11/2024.
Specialized Experience: One (1) full year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skill, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the Program Support Assistant position, and that is in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-4 level in federal service to qualify at the GS-5 grade level. Experience for this position would consist of: experience in positions which required skill in operating a computers to type correspondence such as memorandums, letters, reports, documents, etc.; skill in operating computers, printers, typewriters, calculators, and software programs such as MS Word, Excel and Office or compatible software; experience in positions that required customer service skills such as a receptionist, receiving telephone calls, routing calls to appropriate staff, greeting the customers, etc.; and skill in oral and written communication and interpersonal relations, to appropriately and courteously relate to internal and external customers. Substitute of Education for Experience - 4 years above high school: Four years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable for this position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED.

Combining Experience and Education - Equivalent combinations of experience and education are qualifying for this position. Note: Only education beyond the second year is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement at the GS-5 grade level. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED.
Typing - must be able to type 40 wpm.

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some bending, stretching, and walking required when obtaining records from the shelves, and may on occasion involve lifting up to 25 lbs.
Work Environment: The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training room, or file rooms. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
