You will serve as the Supervisory Clinical Administrative Specialist with the Geriatrics & Extended Care services at the VA Puget Sound Healthcare System located in Tacoma, Washington.
Duties
Manage the daily operations of diverse clinic.
Supervise four Advanced Medical Support Assistants.
Responsible for organizing and supervising the workflow for subordinates and establishing work priorities and making changes and adjustments to work assignments based on any number of issues, including customer demands and needs.
Evaluate the work performances of subordinates and develop performance plans.
Resolve complaints from employee and refer group grievances and more serious unresolved complaints to the Administrative Officer and Service Line Chief.
Interview candidates for positions in the unit and recommend appointment, promotion, or reassignment.
Handle minor disciplinary measures such as warning and reprimands and recommending other actions in more serious cases.
Identify developmental training needs of the employees and provide or arrange for the needed development and training.
Find ways to improve production or increase the quality of the work.
Develop organizational structures and processes to ensure optimal administrative operations within assigned sections.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM PDT to 3:30 PM PDT.
Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for ad-hoc telework. Ad-hoc telework is defined as situational telework approved on a case-by-case basis. Examples of situational or ad-hoc telework include telework because of inclement weather, doctor appointment, or special work assignments. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement, 12/13/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-07 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: review requests for recruitment, promotion, pay, and loss actions to ensure they are completed in accordance with regulatory requirements; review and process Compensation Panel Action Forms for physicians, Physician Assistants and Advanced RN practitioners to ensure that requests for recruitment and retention incentives are included and seek special salary rates when salaries are no longer competitive; interpret new and existing directives, handbooks, policies, instructions, regulations, and delegations of authority for potential impact on program objectives, operating policies, and work operations; evaluates significant trends and issues to forecast and estimate program requirements; prepare reports, justifications, charts, graphs, statistical and narrative data for briefings and presentations to management officials; evaluate and monitor administrative activities and makes recommendations for improvements including the effective use of administrative staff, assisting the managers and supervisors, keeping them informed of organizational updates, and any program changes impacting their program; attend program trainings to maintain ongoing continued skill expectations as an Automated Data Processing Application Coordinator (ADPAC) manager and coordinator of the use of an automated data processing applications; complete all requirements necessary for trainees and new employees to have timely access to organization software, databases, and records; evaluate the work performance of subordinates, develop, and update annual performance plan for subordinates and ensure the staff has competency assessments completed in accordance with the expectations; identify developmental training needs of the employees and provide or arrange for the needed development and training; lead quality improvement projects to resolve systems issues which arise in the normal operation of the sections assigned, or which arise at the time of a program development of change; analyze patient care processes to identify and reduce potential problems and suggest solutions or alternatives to existing processes. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have completed master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B. or J.D., if related, that is directly related to the duties of the position. OR,
Combination (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED): Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have some specialized experience as described in A and have successfully completed graduate level education (more than the first year or 18 semester hours) to meet total experience requirements. I have computed the percentage of these requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100%. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond two years by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.)

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary and performed in a typical office setting. Some slight physical effort may be required. Routinely walking around the Medical Facility.
Work Conditions: The incumbent typically performs work in an office setting which is adequately lighted and climate controlled; however, regular trips to patient treatment areas and exam rooms are essential. The position requires travel between both divisions of the VAPSHCS, and may require occasional overnight travel to meetings, conferences, and training sessions.
