This position serves as the sole Writer/Editor on the Communications team, within the Quality and Patient Safety (QPS) Front Office Executive Team. This position provides writing, editing and communication support across QPS to accomplish the ultimate goal of providing the highest quality healthcare to Veterans across the nation.
Duties
Major duties include, but is limited to the following:
Performs writing and editing work for print, broadcast, and electronic media including newspaper, magazines, brochures and radio;
Writes news releases, feature stories, scripts, announcements, speeches, and fact sheets for both internal and external audiences;
Develops and monitors project management tracking databases to ensure all aspects of a project are covered and on track;
Utilizes desktop publishing hardware and software to draft, edit and lay out the material and design, print, and distribute it as needed;
Uses critical thinking skills and decisive judgment to work with minimal supervision in a collaborative, team environment;
Consults with and acts as backup to the Multimedia Specialist in support of layout and design tasks;
Liaisons with communications and Public Affairs professionals across VA to showcase products in a strategic and timely way;
Uses Word, PowerPoint and Excel to represent written ideas and distribute content to various audiences and;
Arrange subject matter expert interviews and performs topic research as required.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Successful candidates would be an expert in writing and editing, the application style such as Associated Press. An ideal candidate would also have experience with creating written products such as articles, fact sheets, speeches and executive correspondence.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/09/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-13 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-12 grade level. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.
Provide a copy of your last or most recent SF-50, "Notification of Personnel Action" to indicate your current federal status. You must also submit additional SF-50(s) to clearly demonstrate one year time-in-grade as required in the announcement. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate that you possess one year time-in-grade. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one year time-in-grade.

Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-12 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. For this position specialized experience will include, but not be limited to: Performing writing and editing work for print, broadcast, and electronic media including newspaper, magazines, brochures, and radio; Uses desktop publishing hardware and software to draft, edit, and lay out the material and design, print, and distribute it as needed; Utilize Word, PowerPoint and Excel to represent written ideas and distribute content to various audiences. Note: This specialized experience MUST be substantiated in your resume.

Per Office of Personnel Management General Schedule Qualification Policies, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
