This position is located in the Office of Communications (OCOM) of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and serves as a team lead and technical expert to keep the public, and other interested stakeholders informed regarding FDIC policies, regulations, responsibilities, programs and key initiatives.

Duties
Develops communications strategies aimed at increasing the reach of FDIC information. Leads the writing, review and edit of key FDIC communication, policy, and outreach materials in terms of their substance, audience, tone, format, consistency, structure, and use of appropriate vocabulary. Content is developed for a diverse audience, to include the public, stakeholders and interest groups, FDIC employees, and supervisors, senior management, and officials.
Prepares and coordinates written communications to internal and external stakeholders’ projects that are of special interest to the Chairman and senior leadership at the corporation.
Originates and edits materials for materials such as global messages to FDIC employees, newsletters, booklets, pamphlets, brochures, press releases, Financial Institution Letters, and annual reports.
Acts as lead copy editor and production editor for major FDIC publications such as the newsletter and booklets. Materials submitted for review and editing are developed by multiple authors with varying levels of writing ability and are in varying levels of quality, often needing significant revision, editing, and proofreading.
Ensures that all programmatic and policy information is accurate and accessible to target audiences.
Evaluates how available information can best be used to meet objectives of top management and help identify opportunities for developing new information. Advises top management on the best method to present information, especially those of a controversial nature recognizing the political interests and sensitivity to a subject or issue.
Qualifications
Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. To qualify, applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the grade 14 level or above in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience overseeing all phases of the publication process and distribution of various communication products for public dissemination; and developing communication strategies in order to increase distribution, reach, and accessibility to target audiences.
