These WG-07 Maintenance Workers are part of the Facility Maintenance Division, Grounds & Custodial Group, located at Zion National Park in Springdale, Utah.
These are permanent, full-time, Career-Seasonal positions, subject to non-pay up to 1 pay period (2 weeks) each year, scheduled in October or in January, depending on the position duties. Career-Seasonal appointments include the same benefits as year-round Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis.
Duties
These WG-07 Maintenance Workers are part of the Facility Maintenance Division, Grounds & Custodial Group, located at Zion National Park in Springdale, Utah. The primary purpose of these positions is to perform recurring building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties and to assist journeymen and other higher graded maintenance workers. Incumbents utilize knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts.

Physical Effort: Physical effort is heavy to moderate, and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50 pounds, unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend, stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions.
Working Conditions: Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors (temperatures -40 to 90+ degrees). Subject to danger of falling from ladders or scaffolding. Exposed to dust, dirt, wind, and rain. May work with dangerous chemicals and around moving equipment; paints, solvents, etc. May be exposed to electrical shocks, and biting insects.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:1. The ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision for the Maintenance Worker, WG-4749-7 position. Experience must be demonstrated in at least two of the following trades:
Carpentry (constructs, installs, repairs and replace items such as doors, shelves, etc.);
Painting (preparing surfaces, determine painting materials to be used and method of application, and painting a variety of surfaces);
Plumbing (replace various valves, unions, elbows, fixtures, toilets, faucets and various types of pipe and copper lines, cut and thread pipes, winterize water systems, etc.);
Roofing (repairs and patching, tar and paper, metal foam roofs and asphalt shingles);
Electrical (repairs including removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, and insulating defective wiring and fixtures;
Cement Finishing (building and setting forms for sidewalks and steps, mixes pours, spreads, and levels cement and concrete in preparation for final finishing;
Masonry (maintenance, measures, determines amount of concrete, sets forms, pours and finishes concrete to blueprint standards and project specifications).
2. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic).
3. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading).
4. Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment.
5. Knowlege of Materials.
