Duties
This WG-09 Maintenance Mechanic is part of the Facility Maintenance Division, Buildings and Utilities Group, located at Zion National Park in Springdale, Utah. This is a permanent, full-time, year-round position.
The primary purpose of the position is to perform building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties. The incumbent utilizes journeyman knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts.

Physical Effort: Physical effort is heavy to moderate and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 75 pounds, unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend, stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions.
Working Conditions: Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors (temperatures -40 to 90+ degrees). Subject to danger of falling from ladders or scaffolding. Exposed to dust, dirt, wind, and rain. May work with dangerous chemicals and around moving equipment; paints, solvents, etc. May be exposed to electrical shocks, and biting insects.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:
1. The ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision for the Maintenance Worker WG-4749-9 position. (SCREEN OUT) Experience must be demonstrated in at least two of the following trades:
Carpentry (constructs, installs, repairs and replace items such as doors, shelves, etc.);
Painting (preparing surfaces, determine painting materials to be used and method of application, and painting a variety of surfaces);
Plumbing (replace various valves, unions, elbows, fixtures, toilets, faucets and various types of pipe and copper lines, cut and thread pipes, winterize water systems, etc.);
Roofing (repairs and patching, tar and paper, metal foam roofs and asphalt shingles);
Masonry (maintenance, measures, determines amount of concrete, sets forms, pours and finishes concrete to blueprint standards and project specifications);
Water Treatment Plant Operations (monitoring pumping equipment, regulating water, reading meters, gauges, and charts, recording readings, and preparing reports).
2. Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.
3. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic).
4. Use of Measuring Instruments.
5. Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment.
6. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading).
7. Knowlege of Materials.
