This position serves as the Staff Assistant to the Chief of Staff for the Atlanta VA Healthcare System. The Staff Assistant performs program coordination, planning, data evaluation, and project/process improvement for all services located under the office of the Chief of Staff.
Duties
Major duties and responsibilities will include:
Managing long-term and short-term projects for the Chief of Staff's office.
Initiating, planning, and implementing process improvement initiatives.
Developing position papers and decision documents representing the position of the organization on a variety of complex and sensitive issues
Preparing high-level presentations for view by executive leadership and the Station, VISN, and National levels.
Coordinating and composing annual strategic plans and identified goals of the service.
Participating on and leading various committees related to a number of topics, such as process improvement and patient relations.
Receiving and monitoring completed action items or responses.
Leading Veterans Experience initiatives, monitoring and analyzing trends, developing and implementing plans for improvement and making recommendations.
Managing and coordinating all online communication tools.
Ensuring compliance with all applicable policies, and development and maintenance of internal management processes related to online tools.
Coordinating facility-level events and meetings for AVAHCS staff.
Developing proposals and supporting materials for presentation at conferences, meetings, hearings and other external activities and meetings.
Performing other related duties as required.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/06/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-13 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-12. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-12 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Serving as official representation for executive-level leadership.
Generate and apply new concepts in planning, conducting, and evaluating short and long range studies and projects.
Leading a team dedicated to process and efficiency improvement for a hospital-type organization.
Monitoring, retrieving, analyzing and reporting data and statistical analysis from a multitude of VA-specific data resources.
Communicating effectively and efficiently via written, oral and presentation based methods at an executive level.
Tracking and monitoring performance improvement measures and utilizing that information to develop plans for improvement.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, although some slight physical effort may be required.
