You will serve as anENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the Quality Assurance Office, Quality Performance and Assessment Division, Non-Nuclear Audit and Assessment Branch (Code 136.1) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will be responsible for scheduling work, completing tasks on time and resolution of problems of a technical nature.
You will write detailed and evaluation reports, problem reports and surveillances to cover extensive work evaluations and modifications.
You will monitor equipment performance, operational methods and trends, and ensure completeness of results by following work in the shop and on the vessel.
You will provide information and quality control technical guidance to engineers and engineering technicians of various grades.
You will be an authority on every phase of their work and serve as a consulting source for shipyard management.
Requirements

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
GS-12
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience applying the basic scientific principles particularly those of the engineering sciences, together with specialized knowledge of SUBSAFE and nonnuclear propulsion work/systems, processes and effects for auditing /performing surveillances.
Experience utilizing knowledge in the following areas: SUBSAFE Program requirements, SUBSAFE Reentry Control, TWD COWRR/Certification, Material control (Certified Structural Material-CSM)/storage/use/purchase, Structural Processes, Paint/Preservation/NACE, URO-MRC, SUBSAFE Engineering requirements/principles, welding/Nondestructive Test Processes/principles.
Experience assembling an audit team, focusing an audit on the critical technical and quality control requirements, approving audit plans and interacting with those audited in a positive manner.
Experience using quality databases such as QPS, CTS, REC Log, ATMS, ATIS, Eaudits, WEBAIM.
GS-11
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience applying the fundamental engineering concepts and terminology, the units of measurement, and their inter-relationship common to structural branches of engineering.
Experience utilizing knowledge of the Naval Shipyard Quality Program Manual that covers all areas of nonnuclear quality control.
Experience planning audits to comply with NAVSEA requirements and providing necessary technical and work review to evaluate appropriate process areas.
Experience performing shipboard inspections/dockside and ship-board surveillances.
