Duties

You will perform nondestructive inspection of castings, forgings, machined parts, metal cladding, airframe and engine assemblies, non metallic materials, and other ferrous and non ferrous metals using NDI test equipment and measuring instruments. You will perform traditional nondestructive inspection using chemicals that are applicable to the total range on nondestructive examination methods. You will calibrate and operate traditional test equipment according to specifications. You will inspect parts for flaws or defects, anomalies in patterns, interpret indications, and document flaws or defects in material and prepare reports on defective parts.

Requirements

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to maintain a current Level II certification in at least three of the following methods: eddy current testing(ET), magnetic particle testing (MT), penetrant testing (PT), ultrasonic testing, UT, X-Ray, and temper etch (TE)

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform common tasks including: 1)calibrating and operating traditional test equipment (eg. ultrasonic testing (UT) equipment, eddy current (ET) equipment, magnetic particle testing (MT) equipment, penetrant testing (PT) equipment, and temper etch (TE) equipment) according to specifications; 2) reading and interpreting specifications, sketches, blueprints, technical directives, manuals, and shop orders; 3) performing general maintenance and minor repair to Non-Destructive Inspection equipment; 4) documenting inspection results and indicating acceptance or rejection according to specifications; 5) performing Non-Destructive Inspection on various forms of ferrous, composite, and nonferrous aircraft metal and engine parts; 6) complying with required safety regulations. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Must possess a certificate of completion with a current level II certification in at least three of the following methods: eddy current testing (ET), magnetic particle testing (MT), penetrant testing (PT), ultrasonic testing (UT), X-ray (RT) or temper etch (TE).
