You will serve as a Nondestructive Testing Mechanic Inspector in the Industrial Executive Department of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST.
Duties
You will perform traditional nondestructive inspection of castings, forgings, machined parts, test plates, welds, metal cladding, pipes, bar stock, flat sheets, airframe and engine assemblies and nonmetallic (composites) and mechanical equipment.
You will utilize complex electronic testing equipment and measuring instruments and various chemicals to accomplish job tasks.
You will examine parts and they are inducted into the facility to determine the existence of flaws or defects.
You will rework examined flaws or defects to determine if the unit still meets specifications.
You will perform traditional and advanced nondestructive inspections (ANDI) of aircrafts, aircraft parts, and aircraft engine parts/components that are repaired, processed and manufactured in the Fleet Readiness Center (FRC).
You will comply with safety regulations, practices, and procedures.
You will instruct/assist work of lesser-skilled personnel as required.

- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- This position requires rotating shift work.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Level II NDI certification.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
Qualifications

The Screen-out Element for this position, ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION, includes the following: 1) Applying working knowledge and understanding of calibration, operation, and utilization of nondestructive testing methods for assigned aircraft systems and equipment; 2) Inspecting parts for flaws or defects of assigned aircraft systems and equipment; 3) Interpreting indications and documenting flaws or defects in material; 3) Assisting in research and development of various nondestructive methods; 4) Working with subordinate inspectors by demonstrating proper inspection methods; and 5) Reading and interpreting specifications, sketches, blue prints, technical directives, manuals and shop orders.
