About the Position: Fort Drum, home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) is located in Northern New York, a historically unique and geographically beautiful area. Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles from Canada with the Great Lakes to the west, Adirondack Mountains to the east, St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.
Duties
Conduct technical comprehensive physical security inspections and surveys of selected mission essential/vulnerable/critical areas, activities and facilities.
Prepare clear and concise evaluation reports substantiating findings and recommendations for corrective action.
Recommend security measures for the physical security upgrade of facilities, organizations, and activities on the installation to include implementation requirements and instructions.
Responsible for performing extensive site-surveys, studies and analysis of installation physical security requirements.
Independently furnishes on-site consultative service in the use of guards and various types of security.
Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 20% of the time.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain the physical security course (7H-3aD/830-ASI H-3) conducted by the USAMPS.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This is a Security position that requires DoD Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) certifications.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) assisting in analyzing and evaluating security programs to meet mission requirements; 2) assisting in performing internal security inspections and surveys to improve the security program for an organization; 3) and providing recommendations related to security hardware, equipment and detection systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Criminal Justice or Security Management. I have the specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and I have at least one year of graduate education as described in B, but less than the required two years. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
