About the Position: Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York, a historically unique and geographically beautiful area, offering bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities from hunting and fishing to winter sports of all types. Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.

Duties

Provides training, planning, and operational support and oversight to the Antiterrorism, Force Protection, and Chemical, Biological, Nuclear and Explosive programs as the installation's senior Anti-Terrorism and Force Protection Officer. Serves as senior advisor to the Garrison and Senior Commanders, tenant units, various staffs, and Garrison Directorates on all aspects of the U.S. Army Protection Program. Plans, initiatives, and directives emanating from Installation Management Command (IMCOM), Forces Command (FORSCOM), Army Material Command (AMC), and Headquarters Department of Army. Determines resource requirements to support all elements of the Command Protection Program, provides input to the Command budget estimating process, defends programmed requirements, and manages allocated funds. Prepares and participates in exercises, planning, critiques, and after-action reviews for the Senior and Garrison Commanders and subordinate units. Chairs the Installation Protection Working Group (PWG), which consolidates all protection-oriented working groups required by DoD policy/guidance and DA regulation/guidance. Coordinates with the Operations Security (OPSEC) officer to review procedures for protection of Command Essential Elements of Friendly Information (EEFI).

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year supervisory probationary period.
  • A Top-Secret security clearance is required.
  • This position requires the incumbent obtain the following core SPeD Certification: Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within their first two years of employment.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Establishing long term operational guidance regarding Antiterrorism, Emergency management, or security efforts for implementation by large private or government organizations; 2) Formulating training plans that relate to contingency operations. crisis management, Antiterrorism and Emergency Management; 3) Synchronizing the implementation of plans and policies for an Antiterrorism, Emergency management or Security Program within a large private or government organization; 4) Working together with Federal, State, county and local government emergency response providers inducing hospitals during emergency planning taring events and exercises. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
