About the Position: Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.
Duties
Advises the Director on all physical security matters.
Evaluates work performance of subordinates, and gives advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters.
Primarily responsible for the implementation of policies and development of procedures for the physical protection of IMCOM and tenant activities facilities.
Plans the accomplishment of assigned projects adhering to the general guidance, policies and objectives of the overall security program.
Reviews, interprets and adapts regulations and directives to meet the demands of security and organizational missions and practices.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or
possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the
incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year
probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
- This position requires the incumbent obtain the following core SPeD Certification: Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within their first two years of employment.

One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Evaluating the effectiveness of existing security practices to recommend appropriate action to correct deficiencies; 2) Inspecting intrusion detection systems and/or devices such as safes and other storage containers; 3) Reviewing law enforcement and/or security guard procedures to assure that required personnel are available for an organization. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
