This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Positions in Support of the Safety of the Public, Law Enforcement, and First Response to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Review police reports, citations, patrol reports and ongoing investigations to ensure they are complete. Collect pertinent criminal intelligence to solve crimes. Monitor the security of known archeological sites, threatened and endangered species, and eagle eyries to report disturbances immediately. Support the Installation Natural Resource Management Plan to deter inadvertent violations by providing information to the public. Patrol all areas downrange for violations of law and breaches of security. Conduct short and long-term overt and covert investigations of criminal offenses related to natural and cultural resource offenses.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • Must obtain and maintain current certifications in CPR techniques, First Responder First Aid, and Haz-Mat awareness and operations (when required).
  • This position is subject to an initial drug screening, and random testing thereafter. In accordance with AR 600-85, DA Form 5019R Condition of Employment must be assigned for mandatory drug testing.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • Position requires a high state of uniform appearance and personal hygiene. The face will be clean-shaven, except mustaches are permitted with certain restrictions.
  • Handlebar mustaches, goatees, and beards are not authorized. If appropriate medical authority prescribes a beard, the length required for medical treatment will also be specified.
  • Wear of uniforms is required. May be required to wear protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, shield, and body armor.
  • Completed prior to hiring: Land Management Police Training or an accredited civilian Law Enforcement such as the United States Army Military Police School or. must be able to complete a Police Officer Training Course within 1 year from date of hire.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid Military and state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Conducting investigations of criminal offenses related to natural and cultural resource offenses; 2) Performing crime scene examinations and interview witnesses to prepare investigate reports; 3) Conducting regular surveillance and physical inspections of perimeters for unauthorized access or damage; 4) Apprehending, arresting, or detaining armed and unarmed suspects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next (second) lower level/grade position in the federal services (GS-08). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Criminal Justice. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
