Duties

Responsible to the Chief, Police/Provost Marshal Division for the implementation and management of the Installation’s Conservation Law Enforcement Program (CLEP). Is statutorily mandated to ensure the protection of natural and cultural resources entrusted to Fort Carson and the Pinion Canyon Maneuver Site (PCMS), while providing for the safety and security of the Installation, its residents and property. Direct conservation law enforcement activities, supervise Conservation Officers assigned and serves as the staff advisor to the Provost Marshal/Director of Emergency Services concerning all aspects of conservation law enforcement. Supervise conservation law enforcement activities by planning, directing and independently conducting enforcement operations and investigations in support of the Installation’s resource management plans. Supervise the activities of subordinates and sets enforcement priorities. Ensure subordinates are trained, instructs employees in specific tasks and techniques, identifies problem areas and makes changes to the program. Perform patrol duties encompassing the enforcement of laws, the protection of life and property, the management of natural, cultural and environmental resources and all related practices and programs. Work closely with the natural and cultural resource managers, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Office, Colorado Parks and Wildlife and others to implement and enforce the natural and cultural resource management plans. Provide other law enforcement support such as traffic safety, the investigation of non-natural resource related crimes and incidents, and security at static and mobile posts during emergency conditions. Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position
  • Must obtain and maintain current certifications in CPR techniques, First Responder First Aid, and Haz-Mat awareness and operations (when required).
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position authorizes the incumbent to carry a firearm. Must be proficient in the use of and/or qualify annually with assigned duty weapons, i.e. a handgun, shotgun and rifle.
  • Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban (Lautenberg )- Individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms. False information provided by candidates is criminally punishable.
  • Must be able to pass a Criminal History Background Check.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Personnel are required to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays. Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • Wear of uniforms is required. May be required to wear protective clothing or gear suchas masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, shield, and body armor
  • Position requires a high state of uniform appearance and personal hygiene. The face will be clean-shaven, except mustaches are permitted with certain restrictions.
  • Handlebar mustaches, goatees, and beards are not authorized. If appropriate medical authority prescribes a beard, the length required for medical treatment will also be specified.
  • Completed prior to hiring: Land Management Police Training or an accredited civilian Law Enforcement such as the United States Army Military Police School. Or must be able to complete a Police Officer Training Course within 1 year from date of hire.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • Required to sign DA Form 5019 Condition of Employment for Positions Under the Drug Abuse Testing Program). must pass drug screening prior to hiring and will be subject to random drug testing on an unannounced basis.
