You will serve as a LIBRARIAN (COLLECTION MANAGEMENT & ACQUISITIONS) in the NIMITZ LIBRARY of NAVAL ACADEMY. Salary range GS-11: $82,764 to $107,590 Salary range GS-12: $99,200 to $128,956

Duties

You will develop and maintain a collection of materials so the library is current. You will develop plans for library acquisitions, audiovisuals, and collection organization to enhance the library resources program. You will manage projects and guide staff to successfully complete work. You will study problems or processes to provide input on potential solutions and implement corrective actions.

Qualifications

GS-12 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in a Federal Academic Library or equivalent experience in the private or public sector academic institution. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Acting as an Acquisitions Librarian in carrying out intricate acquisitions procedures for an Academic Library that requires specialized knowledge of sources necessary for searching out and identifying the best channels for procurement of library materials; 2) Identifying gaps in a Library general collection and acquiring materials needed to support the organizational mission; 3) Overseeing assessments of academic publisher frontlists and out-of-point acquisitions; 4) Explaining acquisitions and collections work group/team goals and objectives to group/team members and assisting the teams in accomplishing their work. GS-11 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Serving as acquisitions and collections librarian with regard to selecting/deselecting print and electronic resources for the Library's general collection 2) Leading library acquisitions and collection management efforts; 3) Leading, coordinates, and performing acquisitions and/or collections work in a Library setting. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

POSITIVE EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
  1. Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree;

    or

  2. A total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, the applicant must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services.


GS-11 Only:
In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education in library science or doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) related to the position.
