About the Position: Serves as a Domestic Abuse Victim Advocate Specialist (DAVAS) providing comprehensive assistance and liaison services to and for victims of dating, intimate partner, and spouse abuse; parents and/or legal guardians when child advocacy is requested for child abuse/neglect cases.

Duties

Serves as a first responder and supports the installation’s coordinated community response team in domestic violence incidents to include child advocacy in the response to child abuse and problematic sexual abuse cases. Utilizes a trauma-informed approach with victims of abuse executing lethality assessments, safety planning, explanation of restricted reporting, and non-clinical counseling. Develops short-and long-term safety prevention strategies and recommends supportive actions during consultations and briefings with Command. Advises all on and off-post agencies who seek guidance on making a report of suspected child maltreatment or domestic violence on the procedure for contacting the Report Point of Contact (RPOC). Provides recommendations to FAPM in the establishment and implementation of local policies and directives pertaining to the Victim Advocate Program.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • May be required to work other than normal duty hours, on-call, or rotational shifts.
  • May be required to lift and/or carry up to 25 lbs.; walking and standing is also expected during training and other related events.
  • All Army Domestic Abuse Victim Advocates will obtain a Domestic Abuse Victim Abuse Victim Advocate credential at the basic or higher level. This credential should be obtained withing twelve (12) months of hire.
  • TIER I with Child Care State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check, formally known as a CNACI, is required for this position. Must obtain and maintain a TIER I SCHR Check during the duration of employment.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience GS-11: One year of specialized experience which includes providing crisis intervention services to victims of domestic abuse and Assisting in the development of safety prevention strategies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or Counseling. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
