This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration for the Office of Research Services, Office of Chief Operating Officer. The purpose of this position is to perform a broad range of functions required for the acquisition, storage, maintenance, and access of NARA's archival Federal and Court holdings; including accessioning, processing, arranging, describing, digitizing, and preserving archival records and providing public services that support access
Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-11. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
As an Archives Specialist, you will:
Carry out a wide variety of complex actions required to research and respond to various types of offsite reference inquiries, both simple and complex, as well as Freedom of Information Act inquiries and other special requests.
Conducts reference interviews and other onsite consultation to researchers visiting in-person.
Provides customer service to the general research public, federal and other government agencies, and organizations in order to provide access to NARA's holdings.
Coordinating or carrying out the reproduction of archival records through copying or scanning, and using point of sale systems to generate price quotations.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: For the GS-07, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Performing record maintenance and preservation in adherence with archival principles, procedures and record keeping practices; AND
Providing customer service and guidance with record research and reference and access services.
OR
Education: 1 full year of graduate level education OR superior academic achievement based on a Bachelor's degree that is demonstrated through class standing (upper 1/3 of class); grade point average (3.0/4.0 overall or 3.5/4.0 in major), or election to membership in a qualifying national scholastic honor society;
OR
Combination: You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the assessment questions.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable (as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F):
For the GS-7, you must have been at the GS-5level for 52 weeks.
