The position is a Health Technician (Outpatient) located at Whiteriver Service Unit, Indian Health Service Hospital (WRSU) in Whiteriver, Arizona. Under the supervision of and/or licensed nurse, performs patient care, technical and clerical services in the outpatient setting. The incumbent must be able to document and retrieve patient and work related data electronically via several standardized computer programs, as well as, written hard copies.
Duties
Perform clerical tasks, such as answer phones, schedules appointments, etc.
Assist medical provider in clinic, obtaining vital signs and other body measurements, including chief complaint and brief patient history, clinical procedures, and facilitating the flow of patients through the clinic.
Perform simple diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and assemble equipment/supplies in preparation for various diagnostic or treatment procedures performed by medical provider.
Perform routine waived laboratory tests in the clinic.
Responsible for preparation, proper use and care of equipment/supplies and cleanliness of clinic; orders and sorts supplies/linen as needed.
Transport and/or accompany patients via wheelchair and/or stretcher within the hospital and hospital campus.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week..
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS 5:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Responding to emergencies, checking in patients, assisting with patient direct care, documenting patient medical issues, answering phone calls, arranging appointments, assisting with patient discharge, performing waived tests, and obtaining laboratory results.
OR
4 years of education above the high school level.
Education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.
OR
A combination of education and experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.
Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
GS 6:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
Ex: Preparing patient for medical examinations, recording patient information, performing routine specialized procedures, assisting with sterile procedures, restocking supply, preparing transfer/transport packets, participating in meetings, assisting with oxygen administration, and participating in performance improvement projects.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
