About the Position: This is a protocol assistant position which requires the incumbent to exercise initiative, judgment, and discretion in executing protocol activities in accordance with accepted policies, procedures, and appropriate rules of etiquette in dealing with high-level officials, foreign nationals and distinguished visitors.
TEMP Appointment: This position is a TEMPORARY Not to Exceed 2 YEARS position and may be extended in one year increments up to a maximum of three years.
Duties
Provide commanders with advice and assistance on matters pertaining to protocol and customs of the organization and courtesies of other countries.
Train tasked drivers as needed in support of distinguished visitors' transportation requirements.
Arrange the appropriate transportation and escort officers for each visitor, as necessary.
Make necessary adjustments in planning and managing the overall workflow of the protocol function to meet mission requirements and deadlines.
Make complete arrangements of formal and informal events for the organization.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must possess a valid driver's license to escort visitors to and from airport/hotel/conference locations, etc.
- Duties require night and weekend work.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret clearance.
- Required to lift up to 40 lbs.
- Drug Test Required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To Qualify for the GS-5: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-0303-04 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1) assisting in the planning, coordinating, or executing administrative support for social functions for distinguished or international visitors (military/civilian); 2) coordinating aspects of visits to include preliminary itineraries or support arrangements; AND (3) preparing correspondence of a routine and non-technical nature in proper formatting standards.
OR
Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (NOTE: You MUST submit copies of all your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. (NOTE: You MUST submit copies of all your transcripts.)
To Qualify for the GS-6: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-0303-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1) Escort visitors to scheduled places, and 2) Maintain purchase log for government credit card, and 3) Plan visits for high-level state, federal and foreign officials, and distinguished lecturers.
To Qualify for the GS-7: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-0303-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1) Coordinate protocol and social matters involving the commander and visitors; and 2) prepare guest lists, written invitations and place cards for formal and informal events; and 3) arrange the appropriate transportation and escort officers for each visitor, as necessary.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
