This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), Atlanta Federal Records Center. The mission of the Federal Records Centers Program is to safeguard the nation's records, including citizen tax returns, Official Military Personnel Folders, passport applications, and National Security Information (NSI).
Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-07. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
As an Archives Technician, you will:
Review SFs 135 prepared by Federal agencies and verify that the information supplied is complete, accurate, and conforms to operational procedures and Federal agency records management guidelines.
Process forms and documents to accomplish records disposition or accessioning, and review all records listed as eligible for disposal or accessioning.
Contribute to local space planning and analysis, taking into consideration variables such as type of record, reference activity, and retention period, and recommend locations for new transfers.
Review the ARCIS database to ensure accuracy and conformity of entries and make corrections.
Serve as a technical contact point for specified customer agencies, developing and maintaining effective liaison with agency representatives to discuss and advise on established policy, procedures and regulations, and to facilitate resolution of records management issues.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: For the GS-06 grade level, specialized experience is defined as one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service, that is typically in or related to the position and which equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:
Communicating with customers and responding to inquiries, verbally or in writing; AND
Using systems to locate items and/or using documentation to identify information relevant to a work assignment; AND
Interpreting regulations, procedural manuals, directives, etc. to complete archival work assignments.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-06, you must have been at the GS-05level for 52 weeks.
