About the Position: The position is located at US Army Combat Readiness Center Office of the Commander Director of Training & Education at Fort Novosel, Alabama. As a Safety Occupational Health Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy work environment by identifying hazards, conducting risk assessments, and implementing safety programs.
Duties
Instructs and developed safety training materials on topics such as mishap investigation, safety program management, regulatory requirements, industry standards, tactical safety, range safety, and traffic safety.
Evaluates lesson plans, programs of instruction, training support packages, and presentations for safety materials.
Facilitates class discussions, lecture conferences, practical exercises, and case studies on theory and practical application of safety related topics.
Evaluates student performance and attainment of specified standards, particularly on written assignments and hands-on training events.
Monitors new or changed doctrine particularly in safety and occupational health as necessary to assure accomplishment of assigned functions.
Identifies root causes of mishaps and other anomalies found during a mishap investigation.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position may require the employee to occasionally travel away from the normal duty station approximately 10% of the time.
- Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service or equivalent pay system which includes: 1) Applying safety principles, standards, and investigative techniques in mishap investigations; (2) Conducting inspections of environmental conditions to identify potential hazards; and (3) Providing guidance on policies, regulations, and special projects related to the administration, reporting, and recording of mishap data. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
