Duties
PRIMARY PURPOSE: To serve as Deputy to the Special Operation Maintenance Group (SOMXG) Commander in a group with more than 1500 funded authorizations. With the commander, the incumbent oversees the complex, numerous, and varied day-to-day aircraft maintenance activities that the SOMXG provides to the installation mission. The incumbent is authorized to make technical and executive decisions for the SOMXG Commander in all areas of functional responsibility; represents the group and the commander at meetings, conferences, official functions, and community events; and, when acting as the senior group official in the absence of the commander, possesses the same authority and prerogatives as the commander, excluding UCMJ authority which is vested in military officers only. Exercises executive level supervisory and managerial authorities.
DUTIES:
As deputy to the commander, plans, organizes, and oversees the day-to-day support activities that the SOMXG provides to the installation.
Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
Represents SOMXG with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.
Participates in special projects and initiatives and performs special assignments to include long-term planning, functional/technical advice and guidance, and continuity of management.

- This is a Centrally Managed position in the Logistics Career Field.
- This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
- A 1-year supervisory probationary period is required if applicant selected has not previously met this requirement.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance.
- This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.
- The employee may be required to obtain and maintain required professional/technical certifications.
- Mobility is a condition of employment. The employee must sign an Air Force-wide mobility agreement.
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
- The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

QUALIFICATIONS:
In order to qualify, you must meet the Specialized Experience Requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions: Administrative and Management Positions- Miscellaneous Administration and Program Series (0301)
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 (or higher) grade level or equivalent (may have been obtained in the federal service, military, or public sector). Examples of specialized experience include knowledge of large, complex organizations that provide aircraft maintenance, aircraft maintenance program planning, logistics, and other support; as well as resources management policy and planning in the areas of facilities, equipment, contracts, personnel, funding, programming, and other administrative and operational issues; and knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-13 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-14 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of large, complex organizations that provide aircraft maintenance, aircraft maintenance program planning, logistics, and other support; as well as resources management policy and planning in the areas of facilities, equipment, contracts, personnel, funding, programming, and other administrative and operational issues.
Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization through subordinate supervisors.
Ability to analyze, plan, coordinate, and adjust work op rations of multiple organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources.
Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.???????
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
