This position is located in Rockville, Maryland. The incumbent will have dual responsibilities to (1) provide administrative assistance to the various programs within the operations division and (2) supports the office automation functions and will perform a wide variety of administrative tasks associated with maintaining and supporting the work of the organization.
Duties
Office Support
Purchasing supplies and equipment utilizing purchasing guidelines and procedures, timekeeping functions, and preparing / processing documents associated with travel and timekeeping of staff.
Schedules appointments, coordinates meetings, and/or conferences.
Correspondence Management
Receives, accesses, routes or otherwise handles incoming and outgoing materials such as controlled or routine correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other forms of written communication.
Tracks controlled correspondence, composes and edits correspondence, letters and reports, reviews correspondence and other written documents for accuracy.
Office Automation
Performs office automation duties to prepare and create documents such as correspondence, forms, and reports which can include technical material, graphs, and charts.
Enters information into established databases and similar systems which track various administrative activities of the organization.
Point of Contact
Receives and direct phone calls and interact with persons from within and outside the immediate organizational unit.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-5:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following types of work and/or tasks:
Purchasing supplies and equipment utilizing prescribed purchasing guidelines and procedures, timekeeping functions, and preparing and processing documents associated with travel and timekeeping of staff.
Tracks controlled correspondence, composes and edits correspondence, letters and reports, reviews correspondence and other written documents for accuracy.
Operate a variety of automated software packages, electronic systems such as word processors, personal computers, and work stations linked to computers, and associated equipment such as printers, optical scanners, and modems.

Successfully completed four (4) years above high school. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial, or technical school, junior college, college or university.

Have a combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify. Must submit transcripts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-6:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following types of work and/or tasks:
Receives, assesses, routes, or otherwise handles incoming and outgoing materials related to correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other forms of written communication.
Prepare a variety of administrative and technical documents.
Serves as point-of-contact for scheduling meetings for conference rooms located within the service line.
Orders supplies for department using the internal e-order system and Maintains running inventory of required items to assure availability when needed.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Education
You may qualify for the GS-05 using education. If you are applying to the GS-05 and wanting to qualify with education, you are strongly encouraged to submit a copy of your transcripts or a list of your courses including titles, credit hours completed, and grades.
