Duties

Provide direct assistance to Soldiers, civilians, and family members, handling a range of concerns with sensitivity, discretion, and professionalism. Apply the Inspector General Action Process (IGAP) to analyze complaints, requests for assistance, and requests for information. Develop, plan, and execute inspections aligned with the Organizational Inspection Program to assess compliance, identify potential risks and recommend improvements. Write detailed inspection reports with actionable recommendations for commanders, highlighting strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for improvements. Conduct impartial, thorough investigations into alleged violations of law or policy, adhering to IG investigative principles. Prepare well-organized, clear, and evidence-based investigation reports that effectively communicate findings. Facilitate training for leaders, staff, and Soldiers on IG processes, responsibilities, trends, and best practices, enhancing awareness and compliance. Conduct scenario-based training for Investigating Officers (IOs) to build investigative proficiency, covering evidence assessment, interviewing techniques, and report writing. Conduct Organizational Inspection Program Training (OIP) for leaders, staff, and inspection team members, explaining inspection principles and regulatory requirements. Provide guidance on OIP implementation and oversight. Brief senior leaders on findings and follow up to ensure that corrective actions are implemented. Utilize analytical and writing skills to present complex information in a straightforward manner for senior leaders' understanding and decision-making.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • Successful graduation from the Inspector General (IG) School and maintain certification in accordance with regulation.
  • Practice Inspector General attributes as mandatory requirements for continued employment as an Army IG.
  • Any series criminal activity, to include drug use, will result in the immediate removal of an employee from IG duty and loss of access to IGARS and IGNET.

Specialize Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the NH-02/GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1) Managing complex assistance cases, providing guidance, and addressing issues related to personnel, welfare, and morale 2) conducting thorough and objective investigations, gathering and analyzing evidence, and preparing clear, concise, and well-organized investigative reports 3) planning, executing, and reporting on inspections, including identifying findings, recommending corrective actions, and ensuring follow-up to assess implementation 4) providing training to Investigating Officers, teaching the Organizational Inspection Program, or tailoring training content for diverse audiences to improved organizational knowledge and performance 5) interpreting and applying Depart of Defense and Army policies, regulations, and standards, as well as researching legal requirements to ensure compliance. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Compliance InspectionOrganizational AwarenessPlanning and EvaluatingResearch Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11/NH-02).
