About the Position: This Inspector General position is with the IG Office AMSEL- IG USA Communications Electronics Command, Command Group and HQ CECOM Inspector General (AR), Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD.
Duties
Serve as CECOM and APG IG Assistance & Investigations (A&I) Chief.
Perform all four IG functions: inspections, assistance, investigations, and teaching and training—to enhance the command’s readiness and warfighting capability.
Direct a team by assigning, identifying, distributing, and balancing workload among employees in accordance with CIG guidance, skill level, specialties, and command priorities.
Resolve complaints and grievances and foster a culture of learning, sharing, cooperation and teamwork that improves efficiency and effectiveness throughout CECOM, APG Garrison and three PEOs.
Process IG Action Requests IAW IG Action Process.
Serve as command investigative subject matter expert and provides guidance as outlined in the Whistleblower Protection Act and Army Regulation 20-1.
Leads inspections as directed by the CG and CIG by properly following the three inspection phases and strictly executing the 17-step inspection process.
Performs teaching and training as both an embedded (inspections, assistance, and investigations) and independent function.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- Applicants are required to maintain certification in accordance with AR 20-1 Inspector General Activities and Procedures; and practice IG attributes as mandatory requirements for continued employment as an army IG.
- Any serious criminal activity, to include drug use, will result in the immediate removal of an employee from IG duty and loss of access to IGARS and IGNET.
- Applicants will be subject to a database check against the Army’s IGARS database to screen for substantiated and ongoing IG investigations

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Understanding and properly following the 7-step Inspector General Action Process. 2) Conducting interviews of witnesses, subjects, and suspects. Evaluating draft investigative reports, records, and final reports. 3) Understanding and properly following the 17-step inspection process. Coordinating external inspections, investigations, and inquiries conducted by higher level commands (e.g. DoD, DA, and AMC). 4) Maintaining and applying current knowledge of laws and regulations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (NH-03/GS-13).
