This position is located at the Indian Health Service, Blackfeet Service Unit, Browning MT. Division of Administrative Services, Branch of the Business Office. The primary purpose of this position is to provide receptionist services which is the key point for interaction with patients to obtain and process demographic and insurance information for Alternate Resources, Patient Registration, Purchased Referred Care (PRC) and other pertinent health information.
Duties
Interview patient to obtain pertinent Patient Registration information, i.e., demographic and insurance information and authorization to enable the Business Office to bill for health care services provided from all Alternate Resources, including the non-beneficiary services.
Assist the patient in completing new or updated forms for the Patient Registration System. This will include inpatients, outpatients, dental patient, mental health patients, surgery, all ancillary services and may be subject to emergencies and after hour patients.
Determine the eligibility of patients seeking health care, who have not previously been treated at the facility by obtaining the certificate of Indian Blood or other documentary proof of tribal membership, according to the IHS guidelines.
Complete tasks that are of a clerical and technical support to the medical and nursing staff. At times, may act as the liaison between the provider/nurse and the patient.
Maintain knowledge of information management concepts (Health Records) and effectively participate in implementing the information management principles and maintain security and confidentiality of data and information.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
Specialized Experience
For positions at GS-4 and above: Experience in operating, supervising the operation of, or instructing in the operation of equipment related to the particular specialization for which application is made. Experience gained in the operation of equipment in a specialization directly related to the specialization may be credited through the GS-5 level.
Experience gained in the operation of equipment for animal diagnosis or treatment may be credited as specialized experience for that particular specialization through the GS-5 level.
OR
Education and Training
For GS-3: Successful completion of (a) an approved program in practical nursing or in operating room or surgical technician work of at least 9 months in length, or (b) l year of study with at least 6 semester hours in any combination of scientific subjects such as biology, anatomy, physiology, chemistry, medical technology, or physics.
For GS-4: Successful completion of 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of subjects such as those listed for GS-3. At least 6 of the 12 semester hours of the courses must have been directly related to the specialization of the position.
For GS-5: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in a major field of study appropriate to the specialization of the position, or that included at least 24 semester hours in courses such as those listed for GS-3. Of the 24 semester hours, at least 12 must have been in a field directly related to the specialization of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSGS-04: One (1) year of general experience OR Two (2) years of education above high school
GS-05: Four (4) years of education above high school OR One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level
GS-06: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level
NOTE: Equivalent combination of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels and positions for which both education and experience are acceptable.
General ExperienceProgressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
Specialized Experience Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
Examples of specialized experience at the GS-05 grade level
Interview patients to obtain demographic and third party insurance information; greet patients; maintain logs on referrals and reports; knowledge of available health resources and programs, medical terminology, and medical care practices.
Examples of specialized experience at the GS-06 grade level
Receive and direct patients and visitors, answering routine inquiries, and making appropriate referral of questions concerning patients' condition, use and apply medical terminology, determine eligibility requirements for Medicare, Medicaid, CHIPS, Private insurance and the Veterans Administration, enforce and work with laws and regulations related to the confidentiality of medical records and the release of information from medical records, computerized data entry and information systems.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
