This position is located in the nursing division, Blackfeet Service Unit, Browning, MT. The purpose of this position is to provide a variety of administrative tasks associated with maintaining and supporting the work performed within the organization, and provide support to nursing, supervisors, and administrators of the Blackfeet Service Unit.
Duties
Provide direct professional nursing care to patients in hospitals or health centers.
Interview patients and family members to consult with attending physicians, other staff members to determine and evaluate the kind of health and physical care needed.
Observe and document patients' condition, change and/or reaction to medication and medical treatment.
Maintain health records by documenting observation, nursing intervention and
therapeutic measures administered.
Provide counseling and teaching to patients and families or surrogates on
preventive, curative and rehabilitative measures involved in health care.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-5: Four years of education above high school level OR your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Serve as receptionist for the Ambulatory Care Department, answer the telephones, direct or transfer calls to the appropriate personnel and take messages as indicated. Greet or assist patients, families and or visitors courteously. Perform routine office procedures to co-ordinate a wide range of clerical practices (including filing systems, typing reports, appointment scheduling, etc.
GS-6: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Receive phone calls and assess the patient's need for routine, urgent and emergent appointments with appropriate provider and clinic. Maintain the appointment system, organizes appointments to accurately reflect routine clinics, specialty clinics and the medical provider's schedules. Generate follow up letters for annual exams. Assist in the coordination of specialty clinics. Perform clerical duties related to patient referrals, notify appropriate personnel and route patient records according to established protocols.
Specialized Experience -- Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled.
NOTE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels and positions for which both education and experience are acceptable.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
