You will serve as a HAZARDOUS WASTE DISPOSER in the Environmental Division of NAVAL FACILITIES ENG COMMAND HAWAII. Salary Range for WG-6 level: $28.14 - $32.82. Salary Range for WG-7 level: $30.49 - $35.59.

Duties

You will have working understanding of a variety of chemicals, including names and properties of various hazardous waste materials, incompatibility, reactivity, and use in production processes. You will have knowledge required to identify and evaluate environmental requirements for the safe and compliant management of hazardous and industrial wastes. You will have knowledge to identify properties and hazardous characteristics of chemical elements and compounds and to interpret and consolidate findings of sample analysis reports and tests.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • The incumbent must have documented training in hazardous waste handling, operations and emergency response.
  • The incumbent must possess a CDL, Class B, Hazardous Material endorsement
  • The incumbent must be able to obtain a government license to operate a 6000-pound forklift within 6 months of start date.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • The incumbent must continually lift, move and otherwise handle up to 85-gallon drums.
  • Must be able to don and utilize respirators, face shields, self-contained breathing apparatus and protective equipment to Level A protection for sustained periods of time.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Having the ability to independently perform the most difficult and complex tasks including making determinations based on reference sources and other known information regarding the treatment, stabilization, neutralization, separation, and preparation of hazardous wastes for shipment and disposal.
