Duties
You will independently make decsions regarding containment methods, collection, storage, disposal, transport, sampling and testing operations.
You will separate, contain, and transport hazardous and industrial wastes.
You will identify and evaluate environmental requirements for the safe and compliant management of hazardous and industrial wastes.
You will interpret and apply remediation requirements of engineering drawings and job plans.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

- Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- You will be required to maintain medical and Occupational Safety and Health Office clearance to use a self contained breathing apparatus and air purifying respirators.
- You will be required to maintain eligibility for un-escorted access to Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard Controlled Industrial Area (CIA) and access to other restricted/controlled areas (e.g., NA VMAGLLL, West Loch, etc.).
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Commercial Drivers license, with a Hazardous Materials endorsement.
Qualifications
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

FOR THE WG-7: This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: 1) Placing hazardous waste in appropriate containers; 2) Collecting, processing, packaging and preparing hazardous wastes for temporary storage and disposal.; 3) Inspecting hazardous waste containers, storage locations, and labels; and 4) Operating forklift and other container handling equipment.
FOR THE WG-6: This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: 1) Assisting in the collection, processing, packaging and preparation of hazardous wastes for temporary storage and disposal; 2) Processing routine hazardous substances at their facility under the guidance of a supervisor or higher grade disposer; 3) Performing routine operator maintenance and limited repairs on equipment used in handling hazardous wastes and 4) Working as part of a hazardous material response team involved in the emergency and non-emergency containment and clean-up of hazardous spills.
