This position is located within the Scientific and Public Engagement Branch (SPEB), NINDS Office of Neuroscience Communications and Engagement (ONCE) under the overall direction of the Director for ONCE. The mission of the Office of Neuroscience Communications and Engagement is to promote a better understanding of brain and nervous system science and its impact on health through dynamic collaboration, communication, and community engagement.
Duties
Directs the activities of the staff assigned to the Branch.
Reviews and approves policy and program actions within delegated authorities, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and guidelines, and consistency with sound management practices.
Consults with leaders from nonprofit organizations, professional associations, and scientific communities to inform neuroscience education, public liaison, and outreach efforts.
Oversees and collaborates in conducting in-depth analyses of significant scientific and policy issues and subject matter areas to guide the research agenda and to influence and participate in the development of plans, priorities, and initiatives.
Prepares materials for the Institute Director and other senior leaders on scientific issues and links to recurring and special activities.
Develops, refines, and shares strategic engagement frameworks and processes.
Regularly represents NINDS in interactions with senior staff at national organizations for the purpose of increasing awareness of the NINDS/NIH mission and partnering around shared priorities.
Coordinates and oversees efforts and activities to engage with nonprofit organizations and to conduct science education outreach.
Provides guidance for and oversight of the Institute’s strategy to engage with people with lived experience.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

Qualifications
Education Requirement:
In order to quality for a Health Science Policy Analyst, GS-0601, position, you must possess a Bachelor's degree or graduate/higher level degree with a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position.
Additional Qualifications Requirement(s):
In order to qualify for a Health Science Policy Analyst at the GS-14: you must have at least one year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: analyzing and evaluating the health science policy issues affecting an organization and biomedical research community; implementing policies for health science program operations involving complex/controversial areas; and identifying trends and emerging problems in health science-related areas resulting in significant changes in research policy approaches.
