This position is located in the Office of Science Policy (OSP), Office of the Director (OD), National Institutes of Health (NIH), U.S. Department of Health and Human Service (DHHS).
Duties
As a Senior Health Science Policy Analyst, your duties will include, but are not limited to the following:
Provides executive leadership, management expertise, and expert science policy advice across a range of biomedical and clinical research issues, including scientific, academic, public policy, public health, economic, social, ethical, and international matters relevant to the further development of NIH, its programs, policies, and the form of its operations.
Prepares and/or coordinates testimony, in cooperation with Institute scientific staff, for delivery by Office of Director officials and coordinates and/or prepares other materials in response to congressional inquiries.
Advises in the development of science policy of significance to the agency and the biomedical research community, including addressing cross-cutting science issues and drafting agency approaches and positions.
Conducts reviews, analyses, and evaluations of and participates in developing new federal policies to promote the coordination, standardization, and streamlining of federal requirements pertaining to biomedical research.
Identifies emerging issues in relevant areas of concern, such as Congressional interest, extramural research considerations, and policy setting activities ongoing within other agencies which may affect the research mandates at NIH.
Requirements

Qualifications
Education Requirements:
In order to qualify for a Senior Health Science Policy Analyst, GS-0601, position you must have successfully completed a full 4 year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a Bachelor's degree or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. (This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained).
Additional Requirements:
In addition, in order to qualify for a Health Science Policy Analyst, 0601, at the GS-15 level, you must have at least one year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing advisory services to senior management regarding scientific issues; implementing and directing scientific aspects of biomedical research program operations; developing policies for effective program operation and periodic review; interpreting and implementing policies for the organization; identifying emerging science policy trends affecting clinical and biomedical research; writing reports or testimony related to scientific research for use by top level management.
