You will serve as a SHIPFITTER (MATERIAL HANDLER) in the Repair Department, Hull Division of TRIREFFAC KINGS BAY.

Duties

You will serve as a Shipfitter Material Handler responsible for laying out, fabricating, assembling, and installing various metal structural parts of submarines. You will perform a variety of related duties to support the refit operations conducted at TRIREFFAC-KB. You will receive materials from the supply department and perform inspection/verification of incoming material IAW local TRIREFFAC-KB guidance such as IPI-0610-130-00lA and system drawings. You will ensure supply system material is identified with the NSN/NIIN (or pseudo-NSN) applied directly to the material or its individual packaging. You will segregate the material while is it undergoing receipt inspection using signs and/or barriers. You will review documentation received with the material to identify the Job Control Number, which is typically noted on the Material Movement Document. You will receive unused, less than issue unit quantities of Hazardous Material from center personnel. You will identify and quantify usage and properly store material for later issue or properly transfer material to Satellite Accumulation Area. You will be responsible for determining the receipt inspection requirements by the Automated Work Request (AWR) and the Job Material List (JML). You will be determining if the material is designated for Quality Assurance inspection or for shop inspection and ensuring inspections are completed in accordance with applicable guidelines.

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Incumbent must be able to acquire and maintain Controlled Material Handler (CMH) qualifications.
  • Must be able to maintain an IT-II level designation.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION in: interpreting blueprints, laying out, fabricating, assembling, and installing various metal structural parts of submarines and receiving materials for inspections to support refit operations. assisting with working from blueprints, instructions, specifications, using hand and power tools for metal work, assembly, disassembly, re-assembly of metal structures. assisting with various types of metal work using proper tools and techniques to accomplish ship-fitting assignments and maintaining records for inspection of materials received.
