You will serve as a Shipfitter Leader in the Shipfitter Shop (11A), Hull Division (TRF-310), Repair Department (TRF-300) of TRIREFFAC KINGS BAY.

Duties

You will perform rip out, alteration, repair and installation of submarine superstructures. You will be responsible for providing leadership to at least 5-6 Shipfitter mechanics, workers, helpers and apprentices from start to finish of work evolutions. You will assign immediate tasks to be performed by individuals of the group being led. You will schedule training for shop personnel while ensuring training does not conflict with shop operations, and conduct Quality Training along with safety meetings.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current IT-II designation certification.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability To Lead Or Supervise such as: 1 Serves as a Shipfitter Leader responsible for personally performing, directing, and leading the work progress of other Shipfitter mechanics, workers, helpers and apprentices within 11A 2 Receives and carries out instructions as required by the shop supervisor and advises other workers to follow the instructions received. 3 Reports directly to the supervisor in areas such as job progress, delays, employee performance and incidents of employee non- compliance with written or oral instructions. 4 Obtains needed information or decisions from shop supervisor on work problems. 5 Reads and interprets blueprints, templates, and job orders to lay out submarine structural parts such as watertight closures, shell, deck and bulkhead plates, I-beams, channel bar and angle bar, and various foundation structures and other parts. 6 Maintains liaison and coordinates with other trade and technical personnel to discuss install and fit structural parts on submarines. 7 Rolls, bends, flanges, cuts, and otherwise shapes plates, beams, and other metal structural shapes using various shop machinery. 8 Locates positions of pieces by reference to water lines, centerlines, buttock lines, blueprints, and other documents to perform job duties assigned and answer questions. 9 Maintains a current knowledge of procedures, policies, written instructions and other directives pertaining to shop operations to answer questions of other workers. 10 Assures that all safety and housekeeping rules are followed. 11 Assures that tools and equipment are operating properly. 12 Possesses knowledge of equipment, structures, material, and etc. associated with submarine ship fitting operations. 13 Maintains the ability to perform pattern and layout development associated with submarine ship fitting operations. 14 Maintains the ability to use hand and power tools for metal work. 15 Ensures accurate completion of all documentation associated with work operations.
