This position is located within the Carpentry Shop of the Maintenance and Repair Section, Facility Management Service at VACHS San Juan, Puerto Rico. The position is assigned to the surface preparation and painting of floors, walls, ceiling and roofs.
Duties
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
Constructs, alters, repairs and/or modifies interior decoration and structural item such as: doors, partitions, windows, finished paneling, ceiling tiles, floor tiles, bathroom tiles, interior and exterior trims, screens, roofs, floor covering, shelving, cabinets, picture frames where accuracy, spacing and fitness are essential and appearances important.
Provides special packing of all equipment or accessories.
Plans and executes projects from initial layout to final assembly and/or installation.
Follows blueprints, sketches and work orders of items to be constructed/altered, using his own initiative.
Sharpens saws, saw blades, tools, accessories used in the Carpentry Shop and Painting Unit.
Repairs or refinishes furniture, including vinyl tops and wheelchair seats.
Performs other related duties as assigned within Carpentry and Painting Unit.
Sets up and operates woodworking machines and tools.
Constructs, installs, repairs or modifies wood and wood substitute structures and items requiring close tolerance fit and structural soundness.
Applies and uses the most effective procedures of the trade for the execution of routine upkeep of building walls, partitions, ceilings and equipment in general.
Follows established guides for the application and safety requirements in his trade to assure satisfactory painting progress based on the useful life of paint and painting procedures for existing building and equipment.
Performs routine maintenance on painting equipment such as cleaning painting guns, paint pots and hoses.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: 6:30 am - 3:00 pm, may work on weekends and Holidays

Qualifications
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Work is performed indoors, in buildings and outdoors, and grounds. The position is subject to cuts, falls from ladder, nailing accidents, and the danger of working near powered equipment.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
